It’s a place where you can engage your imagination, stimulate your senses and kindle a passion for photography…a time of inspiration and personal growth…an opportunity to develop new skills and acquire new technical knowledge. The workshop setting is informal, relaxing, and fun!

PLEASE JOIN US!!

All of Lou and Todd’s workshops, outings, classes and lessons include Lou’s learning cycle, which is to provide INFORMATION, give opportunities to PRACTICE using the information, and then receive FEEDBACK on the practice results. It’s all about the fun of learning by doing. We’re discovering and exploring your artist within!!

WORKSHOP LOCATION

The indoor instruction will be held at Björkelund, our vacation home in Sister Bay, which is conveniently located near natural areas, shoreline and wildflower habitats.

ABOUT THE LEADERS

Lou Nettelhorst is an accomplished, artistic photographer who shares his extensive knowledge on revealing nature’s beauty through workshops, seminars, classrooms, publications, and exhibitions. A photo editor summed up Lou’s photographs as follows, “Intensity, powerful color, bouncing form, and dramatic, emotional play characterize Lou’s creative photographic style. As a viewer, you’ll want to crawl into Lou’s scenes and become one with the flora and fauna!”

Todd Nettelhorst is also an accomplished, artistic photographer, as well.  His charismatic energy and unique photographic perspective is very contagious.  He has a passion for the visual arts and helping others bring out the best in their creative abilities.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This workshop is designed to accommodate all levels of photographic experience. It is important, however, that participants be familiar with their equipment and its operation.

EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATIONS

A digital SLR camera with a battery of lenses that may capture wide-angle to telephoto and macro subjects and a sturdy tripod are recommended. If you don’t have a macro lens, using extension tubes are a wonderful substitute. We will have some extension tubes for Canon and Nikon to try.  A polarizing filter is a good idea to cut glare off the leaves and enrich the color. A Hoodman loupe allows you to see your LCD screen without glare.  For downloading, storing and providing images for critiques, you’ll need a laptop and USB flash drive.  We recommend storing the images in two locations, like your laptop and an external hard drive.  Other accessories suggested are: blower and lens cloth, extra batteries and plenty of flash or memory cards, diffusion disk and reflector, remote control, flashlight, sun screen, knee pads and a ground cloth. Equipment carts will not work because of the unevenness of the trails. Bring your equipment in a backpack or carry it in a vest. BTW: newer camera phones can take excellent photos and video, as well.  More detailed equipment information is provided by email after registration.  Understand that our equipment recommendations, are just that, recommendations. We’ll work with what you bring.

DRESS and PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

In the spring, weather is quite variable. Be sure to check the forecast and dress accordingly (Weather).  The recommended physical condition is easy to moderate.  For those choosing to do some minimal climbing on shoreline rocks, a moderate physical condition is more appropriate.

LODGING

A block of single and double rooms has been reserved for you through May 16, 2018 at a special rate of $80 per night, plus tax. After May 16, the normal rates apply. You are responsible for booking your reservation. Remember to mention Lou Nettelhorst Photography Workshop.

A thought for consideration: Make a mini-vacation out of your trip to Door County and stay a couple extra days to photograph, shop, enjoy art galleries, the restaurants, marinas, countryside, state parks, etc., etc. Door County is enchanting!! See DoorCounty.com. Open Hearth’s rates during the week are less than the weekend rate…just ask. Nora and John Zacek are the owners.
