2022 Great Smoky Mountains Spring Photography Workshop

April 11 - 15, 2022

Great Smoky Mountain National Park

What an opportunity to improve your photography and elevate your art!

Join Lou & Todd in this five day, immersive spring workshop to explore incredible photo opportunities in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. Year after year, this is the prime time to enjoy wildflowers, classic Smoky Mountain grand vistas, river scenes, cascading water, and even some wildlife. Of course, with all the beautiful wildflowers, shooting macro is very exciting. They arrive early to scout and help find the most desirable locations. They provide coaching during the various shoots and offers two or three critiquing sessions and lessons in the classroom. Our home base is the gateway to the Smokies at The Highland Manor Inn in Townsend, TN. The workshop setting is informal, relaxing, and fun!

Lou and Todd’s workshop format and teaching style is “Inform, Practice, Feedback”.  This is a true photography workshop, not just a coastal photo tour.  This means that Lou and Todd will be working with you throughout the workshop to help you improve your photography skills.  They will provide you with as much, or as little, coaching as you desire.  Their thoughtful, gentle coaching style will encourage you to take your photography to the next level regardless of your starting point.  The daily feedback sessions will include all participants and the feedback, like the teaching, is constructive, instructive and inspiring.

ABOUT THE LEADERS:

Lou Nettelhorst is an accomplished professional landscape and nature photographer and teacher.  Lou’s images have been published in Nature’s Best Photography, Outdoor Photographer, North American Nature Photography Association’s Member Showcase and Chicago Wilderness Magazine and numerous other publications.  His photography has also earned numerous fine art exhibition awards.  Lou’s hallmark is his eagerness to share his professional experience while providing encouragement and humor in a teaching and coaching environment.

Todd Nettelhorst has had a passion for photography and videography much of his life.  His path to becoming a professional photographer began while documenting the honesty of his children’s lives as others asked him to capture that same spirit for their families.  His un-posed, unplanned, spontaneous style of people and his magnificent nature photography makes his portfolio unique.  Todd uses his unique perspective to enable his students to see the “pictures within pictures.”

HOW THE WORKSHOP IS RUN:

All of Lou and Todd’s workshops, classes and lessons include their learning cycle, which is to provide INFORMATION, give opportunities to PRACTICE using the information, and then receive FEEDBACK on your practice. Their goal is to help you do the same.  They will make sure you get to the right place at the right time. To maximize photographic opportunities, the itinerary will be flexible to make the most of changing weather and lighting conditions.
